The name Wet’suwet’en is a recent choice made during the Delgamuukw trail, and it was not till the 1980’s that they officially named themselves Wet’suwet’en. Also see this article called Inventing Wet’suwet’en

Almost all of the history was wiped out in the last 100 years, what remains is passed on by word of mouth, there is very little evidence that supports the claim beyond the living memory of survivors and those who recorded history on the arrival of settlers. Having said that the goverment of Canada needs to take responsibility for that loss. It is more probable they were part of a larger group called Dakelh or Carrier Indians.

I am pretty sure if you study the history closely the biggest reason why the Wet’suwet’en do not want to be part of their parental clan is all about power and land itself. As a united nation they stand to have so much more power, but they would have to relinquish the control the chiefs have now.

It would improve the position of each community, the Wet’suwet’en Nation represents five communities: Hagwilget, Moricetown, Skin Tyee, and Nee Tahi Buhn and Wet’suwet’en First Nations also known as Broman Lake Reserve.
